Mitsuhiro Hayashibe receives Delsys Prize for Innovation in Electromyography

Professor Mitsuhiro Hayashibe from the Graduate School of Engineering has received the 15th Annual Delsys Prize for Innovation in Electromyography from the De Luca Foundation, USA.

The Delsys Prize is an annual competition established in 2003 by Professor Carlo J. De Luca to promote innovative uses of Electromyography. It recognizes advancements in the understanding, techniques/technologies or applications of the Electromyographic signal.

Prof. Hayashibe's winning proposal, titled "Evoked Electromyographically Controlled Electrical Stimulation", was selected from a field of 135 entries from 30 countries. His work demonstrates a novel technique using evoked electromyography signal to realize joint torque prediction under muscle fatigue and also to enable stable neuroprosthetic muscle control. The entries represented a remarkably broad range of interests in diverse areas including Biomechanics, Exercise Physiology, Signal Processing, Facial EMG, Robotics, Rehabilitation.

Prof. Hayashibe is the first Japanese recipient of the international EMG award.
