Prof. Motoyuki Sato of the Center for Northeast Asian Studies has been awarded the 2014 Frank Frischknecht Leadership Award

Professor Motoyuki Sato of the Center for Northeast Asian Studies has been awarded the 2014 Frank Frischknecht Leadership Award at the annual meeting of the SEG (Society of Exploration Geophysicists) which was held on October 28, 2014 in Denver, U.S.A. The award recognizes individuals "who shows extraordinary leadership in advancing the cause of near-surface geophysics through long-term, tireless, and enthusiastic support of the near-surface geophysics community" and is administered jointly by The Near-Surface Geophysics Section (NSG) of the SEG and the Environmental and Engineering Geophysical Society (EEGS).

Professor Sato was recognized for his global contribution to ground penetrating radar (GPR) technology--especially in the development of an advanced borehole radar technology and landslide monitoring through ground-based synthetic aperture radars (GB-SAR), and his various contributions in landmine detection and the search for tsunami victims.
