On December 20, National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan hosted an international joint graduate program workshop, with Tohoku University serving as co-host.
The workshop focused on collaborative international education in the field of materials science, an area which Tohoku University is currently strongly promoting. Tohoku University and National Tsing Hua University signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding the implementing of Double Degree and Jointly Supervised Degree programs in materials science in September 2019, and these programs are expected to further strengthen educational cooperation between the two partners.
Approximately 30 people from the two universities, including President Hideo Ohno, Executive Vice President Toshiya Ueki, and the Dean of the School of Engineering, Tetsuya Nagasaka, participated in the workshop.
At the workshop's opening ceremony, President Hong Hocheng of National Tsing Hua University said, "We have great expectations for cooperation with Tohoku University and hope to deepen exchanges in various fields in the future." President Ohno replied, "I hope that Tohoku University will build partnerships and cooperative relationships with National Tsing Hua University in even more fields. In doing so, we will nurture talented individuals who will serve as a bridge between Taiwan and Japan and who will lead the promotion of further academic endeavors around the world."
In conjunction with the workshop, a signing ceremony was held, at which President Ohno and President Hocheng agreed to renew the cooperative exchange agreement maintained by the two universities.
