The Minister Counsellor for Science and Technology at the South African Embassy in Japan, Eudy Mabuza, paid a visit to Executive Vice President Toshiya Ueki while attending the International Conference on Flow Dynamics (ICFD) hosted by Tohoku University's Institute of Fluid Science on November 2.
Also at the meeting were Daisuke Tanaka, the embassy's Liaison Officer for Science and Technology, Professor ??Debra Meyer, the Executive Dean of the University of Johannesburg's Faculty of Science and Professor Tetsuya Kodama of Tohoku University's Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering.
Professor Kodama is currently collaborating with the University of Johannesburg on research focusing on the development of a lymphatic drug delivery method.
At the meeting, Ms. Mabuza spoke of Japan and South Africa's outstanding science and technology capabilities, and both countries' ability to cooperate in complementary and synergistic ways. She added that collaboration between South Africa and leading research institutions, such as Tohoku University, will be even more important in the future.
Ms. Mabuza also recognized the success of the South Africa-Japan University Forum, held this past July, which focused on the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. She said she looked forward to Tohoku University being an important participant when the Forum is next held in South Africa.
