Webinar on Rural Education in East Asia: Perspectives From Small Rural Schools

The Graduate School of Education is hosting a webinar that explores rural education challenges across East Asia. Speakers will provide case studies from rural schools in China, Korea, and Japan, delving into schools' policies and practices.

The past decades have seen countries within East Asia achieve remarkable progress in raising educational standards, making education more inclusive and equitable. Still, many rural areas face educational challenges owing to a myriad of social issues: migration, unemployment, low birth rates, and efficiency-driven education policies. The COVID-19 pandemic has compounded these problems.

Number four of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDG4) aims to ensure the provision of education for all and leave no child behind in the pursuit of quality education. The webinar marks a good time to take stock of progress across the East Asia region.

The webinar is open to the public, but registration is required.
