Tohoku University and the University of Washington will host a Quantum Forum and Seminar on March 14, as part of its Academic Open Space (AOS) programme.
University of Washington professors Xiaodong Xu and Di Xiao from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, and the Department of Physics, will each give a lecture on their work in the quantum field.
There will also be an opportunity for interaction and discussions, and for researchers to explore the possibility of future collaboration.
Date: March 14, 2024
Time: 1- 5:45 p.m.
Venue: Espace, Katahira Kitamon Commons, 2nd Floor
Language: English
Seminar Part 1:
Time: 3 - 4 p.m.
Professor Xiaodong Xu (bio)
Topic: Observation of Fractional Quantum Anomalous Hall Effect
Reports on the experimental observation of the Fractional Quantum Anomalous Hall (FQAH) effect under strong electron-electron interactions. Also, new perspectives on the study of charge fractionation and anyon statistics due to the discovery of anomalous Hall states and their related effects.
Seminar Part 2:
Time: 4 - 5 p.m.
Professor Di Xiao (bio)
Topic: Topological States in Twisted Bilayer Transition Metal Dichalcogenides
Explains twisted bilayer TMDs which attract attention for the integer and fractional quantum Hall effects at zero magnetic field. And discusses the role of machine learning and polarized charges, and phase diagrams at various fillings.
This English language event is free, and registration is not required. It is open to all, and especially aimed at researchers working in related fields.
