Seminar to Examine the Social Inequalities of COVID-19 through Foreign Eyes

In addition to the wide-ranging health, economic, and social consequences brought about by the COVID- 19 pandemic, many countries saw existing social inequalities exacerbated. Japan was no different.

To examine this, Tohoku University's TUPReP will host a seminar that explores the health impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic in Japan, with a focus on social inequalities. This is the second TUPReP seminar that examines the COVID-19 pandemic through the eyes of foreigners.

Those interested can attend either in-person or online. Registration is required.

Discussion title: Charles Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities. Japan's COVID-19 story?

Professor Sabel will use a range of statistical evidence to present an overview of the Japanese experience before diving into how societal influences both impacted COVID-19, and were impacted by it.

Assistant Professor Yuanyuan Tang,
Discussion title: COVD-19 Pandemic and Ethnic Health Disparities: The Case of Foreign Residents in Japan

Professor Teng's talk will explore the health disparities experienced by foreign residents in Japan and compare these internationally.
